Discover the spectacular Colca Canyon on a full-day journey from Arequipa. Travel through dramatic Andean landscapes, watch giant condors soar above the canyon and experience the traditional villages and terraces of the Colca Valley.

Leave Arequipa behind and journey deep into the Andes towards Colca Canyon, one of Peru’s most dramatic natural landscapes. Travel through high-altitude plains, volcanic mountains and traditional Andean communities before reaching viewpoints overlooking the immense canyon.
Begin with an early morning pickup from your Arequipa hotel and travel north through the surrounding mountains. As you climb into the highlands, watch the landscape change from the volcanic scenery around Arequipa to vast puna grasslands inhabited by llamas, alpacas and vicuñas.
Cross the high-altitude Patapampa Pass, reaching more than 4,800 metres above sea level. Stop at the viewpoint to take in sweeping views of the surrounding volcanoes and Andean peaks before descending towards the Colca Valley.
Continue through traditional villages where adobe houses, small farms and historic churches reflect the enduring culture of the Colca region. See ancient agricultural terraces carved into the mountainsides, some of which continue to be cultivated by local communities today.
Arrive at the famous Cruz del Condor viewpoint, one of the best places to experience the scale of Colca Canyon. Look down into the immense gorge and watch for Andean condors as they rise on the morning thermals, often gliding remarkably close to the viewpoint.
Continue along the canyon to discover additional viewpoints and dramatic landscapes. From the winding roads above the valley, take in enormous cliffs, deep ravines and snow-capped peaks stretching across the horizon.
Stop in one of the traditional villages of the Colca Valley and experience the local atmosphere. Depending on the day’s route, visit a historic church, local market or artisan workshop and learn more about the traditions of the communities living in the canyon.
Enjoy time for a traditional Andean lunch before beginning your journey back towards Arequipa. The return route offers further opportunities to appreciate the changing landscapes and high-altitude scenery.
Arrive back in Arequipa in the evening after a full day exploring the dramatic landscapes and cultural heritage of the Colca Valley.
